This was not literally an attempt to copy any of Brancusi’s numerous sculptures of the same name.
However, The Kiss was certainly inspired by Brancusi’s life-long obsession with this theme.
For me, this sculpture suggests not only kissing in a static sense that could be captured in a snapshot, but something of the kinetics of the act as I have come to know it, as well as the interpersonal dynamics.
At least that’s what I imagined while I carved it.
