Fruiting Bodies

Onyx, pumice.  1986.  9" high with base.  Private collection.

Sometimes, biologists get carried away with the form and function of reproductive organs.  Not surprisingly, then, it was a botanist who purchased this piece.

I carved Fruiting Bodies from an enormous piece of rough onyx that I found on the Yalakom River in B.C., and carried on my back through the mud for what seemed like a thousand miles.  Sometimes, sculptors get carried away with rocks!
