Night Bird

I carved Night Bird in half of a piece of obsidian I found in Central Oregon.  I love the stark contrast between the dark, fast-flowing, delicately formed obsidian bird and the jagged, firmly grounded quartz crystal landscape beneath it.  Obsidian, being volcanic glass, is translucent, almost transparent, really, and this hollow form actually transmits light all the way through.

I still have the other half of the boulder.
