Nodding Buddha
Granite. 2006. 13” high. Private collection.
This salt-and-pepper granite boulder with a dark, fine-grained vein of basalt is a study in contrasts. Here I experimented with two volumes to suggest a human form; we think of it as a Buddha. Nodding Buddha moves all over the garden, but I like it best among these small carnations.
