Wedding
Marble. 1980. 4″. Private Collection.
Wedding was a wedding present for a dear friend, fellow scientist, and teaching partner. I carved it in a chip of waste from a commercial stoneyard. Stone this deeply translucent is difficult to photograph well, so I illuminated it with alternating black and white stripes from slide projectors on both sides. As you can see in many other examples on this website, this method and its laser-based equivalent are valuable tools to evaluate the wholeness and integrity of forms.
