In 2008,
Buzz Holling
won the prestigious
Volvo Environment Prize,
awarded each year to researchers
across a broad spectrum of environmental
studies. Winners have studied everything from
energy efficiency, sustainable development and
the ozone layer to biodiversity, climate change,
and resource economics. One studied how human
well-being depends on environmental quality.
Holling’s award recognized his contribution
to understanding resilience in large
ecological systems and how to
manage them adaptively.
The video explores various facets of that contribution.
I wrote extensively about Buzz in
Buzz Holling: Heroes, Masters and Wizards.
