Hearts

Calcite, brucite, other stones.  Usually 4″ – 6″ wide.

Occasionally I make small things like these hearts, usually from chips made while roughing out raw stones. What to do with them?  Sometimes I pave trails with chips from my sculptures: What a waste!

The honeycomb calcite heart is a chip from Ode to Joy, and the brucite one is a piece cut from a boulder I was shaping for an outdoor stone stairway. Other examples of sculptures that came from chips are Black Surfer and Sailing on a Silent Sea, both in jet black basalt.
